Why choose the qualified signature?

Similar to the advanced signature, the qualified signature guarantees the identity of your signatories. Nevertheless, this identity is imperatively verified using a means certified as ‘substantial’ by the ANSSI and enables the issue of a qualified electronic certificate.

Beyond this identity verification, the qualified signature is defined by two other characteristics:

• It is created using a qualified signature creation device
• It implies the reversal of the burden of proof

This last characteristic makes it possible to impose the burden of proof on the party contesting the electronic signature to prove that it is not the originator, unlike the simple and advanced levels where it is up to the service provider to prove that the electronic signature process is reliable.

Consequently, the qualified signature is used in the context of signing documents that are very critical in terms of possible legal, financial or recourse risks.

There is also a legal obligation to remotely sign notarised powers of attorney. As identity verification can be carried out remotely, the qualified signature is easier to set up as is the user pathway provided to your signatories.

Identity verification methods adapted to your needs

Depending on the user pathway you intend to implement, Docaposte offers two means of identity verification, which you can activate according to your needs:

• La Poste’s Digital Identity service: a universal service that allows you to identify yourself to over 800 online services. Identity verification is done only upon delivery (with the postman, at the post office or remotely), the holder only has to connect and enter their PIN code to verify their identity. La Poste Digital Identity is certified by ANSSI as being compliant with the ‘substantial’ level, and therefore holds the equivalent of a face-to-face identity check.
• Certified remote identity verification service: this service includes all the automatic steps and checks of the simple process but is reinforced by checks performed by a human operator.
